July 13, 2024 Mini Tour & Trustees Meeting

The Canal Society of Ohio Board of Trustees gathered at the Village Coffee Shop in Granville at 9am for coffee. Then at 10am the mini tour began with a historical tour of the Main Street, (Broadway), and the Granville Historical Society Museum hosted by fellow Trustee, Tom Tweedle and guided by very knowledgeable local Historian, Nanette.

A short hike later we arrived at the Old Colony Cemetery which has been carefully reclaimed and preserved. It contains numerous burials dating to the very early 1800's of Veterans of several wars and other pioneers. Members of the restoration organization gave us an historical tour and also explained the steps involved in repairing weather and other damage to the tombstones there.

We then took another short walk back to the town center and ordered sandwiches, then retired to the basement meeting room of the Granville Village Library which was a welcome relief from the heat & humidity of the day! Lunch was immediately followed by a very productive Trustees Business Meeting.

Many thanks to Trustee, Tom Tweedle and the local Granville Historians for arranging an interesting and informative day!! Some snapshots of the days events are shown below.
